Pamela Fottrell

First of all, astrology is not so non-mainstream today.  In 1993, I read in life magazine that over 40% of the population read their daily horoscopes.  As an internet astrologer, I am aware that there are millions of astrological sites, and the bookshelves have increased in astrological literature and magazines.  The Chinese, people of India, and many eastern worlds have practiced the use of astrology for thousands of years.  The first personal horoscope was drawn up in 410 BC, and astrology was introduced in America in the 1600’s.   The roots of the signs of the zodiac come from early cultures of Mesopotamia.

Astrology is a science and an art.  The scientific part is calculating an accurate birth or natal chart, based upon the exact birthday, time, and place of the person.  The art is the description of the correlations between celestial events and human events.   Throughout thousands of years of observing these correlations, it has been determined that the planets do not cause things to happen in your life, or make you have a specific personality, but rather there is a certain synchronicity of celestial and earthly events.

Just as alternative forms of healing is now being more accepted in the United States, alternative forms of helping is thriving.  Astrology is not a religious belief, but a scientific and interpretive as well as an alternative approach to finding more answers into one’s life, which includes home, family, health, money, love, career, and much more.  It does not replace one’s spiritual faith, method of professional help in the legal, medical, or financial fields.  It is a helpful tool to enhance your self awareness, and is another option to utilize in everyday life.

Patterns in natal or birth charts can be found, which help to determine the potential of the  personality, character, talents, and traits of an individual.  One’s chart can give you insight and valuable discoveries into your life that can help you move in a more positive direction.

An astrological family tree can be done to show patterns, which are seen between children and their parents and grandparents.   When a grandchild shows a special affinity with a grandparent, the charts can be compared in a technique called “synastry”, which will find the elements which determine similarities and harmonic qualities between them.  Finding patterns is not limited to children and their grandparents, but can include their parents as well as siblings.

In casting the chart of a child, it is usually a good idea to cast the charts of the parents, because the date of the child’s birth is actually a transit in the parent’s charts.  This gives information as to how each parent may interact with that child.  The child’s chart can tell you which parent would influence the child the most.  It gives practical suggestions the areas of life the child will most benefit from the father’s guidance, and where the mother will have the most positive influence.

A child’s chart can indicate if he or she is an introvert, extrovert, has the potential of having a public or private life, writing or musical ability, good physical qualities to be into sports, and much more.  All of us have special qualities, and assisting in the child’s development into areas which he or she enjoys will help to create a more productive and successful adult.   As the child becomes a teenager, it is beneficial to know the emotional, mental, and psychological qualities.  If the teenager is troubled or has difficulty coping with external situations,  the astrological insight can help a parent to guide the child in a more understanding way.   Again, astrology is not to substitute for conventional medical or psychological advice, but rather is gives added information that will enhance the parent’s wisdom, which ultimately will help the child.

Let me conclude by saying that although I don't know all the answers (and I doubt that anyone does), that even though we don't know why it works, we know that astrology does work.   I've seen astrology work in my own personal life, from my mates to my children, as well as my career.  I made my own choices in life, and some things beyond my control occurred.    Through it all, I've watched how astrology correlated to personal and professional events of myself and my family, including my children.
